About
A bit of my story
I grew up on a family homestead in central Texas. My parents raised and homeschooled me and my nine siblings in a traditional Christian community.
Best childhood ever.
I’ve always loved art and design. Growing up, my grandma faithfully taught me how to draw, and later, paint.
I’ve been dreaming up businesss ever since I can remember: everything from a home-brew soda company to a typewriter repair shop (and plenty in between).
As a teenager, I learned bookkeeping and tax, and worked summers for my dad’s small construction company. I spent six years learning the trades and eventually running projects.
In 2020, my wife Helen and I were married. When we returned home from our honeymoon, I had this idea...
Build a village of Nordic-inspired lakeside cabins — a little oasis here in the heart of Texas. A place that would blend the privacy and personality of the best vacation rentals with the luxury and consistency of the finest boutique resorts.
Meticulously crafted, no detail left to chance, and with a magical vibe.
So it was, a couple months later while scrolling Zillow, that I stumbled upon 5 acres right down the road. It was an overgrown jungle with a little cow pond in the middle. But hidden underneath the swampy brush, I saw a gem: a place to realize that dream.
A few hours later, my offer was accepted...
Fast forward 10 months (and a lot of sweat, tears, and team effort), and voilà! Live Oak Lake was born.
Designing, building and opening this micro-resort in under a year was a baptism by fire in real estate, financing, hospitality operations, social media, and so much more. I brought all my bits and pieces of experience and inspiration and poured everything into that 5-acre slice of Texas.
When we opened our doors in early 2022, business took off. Our first year we hit almost 95% occupancy, grew a brand audience of over a hundred thousand on socials, and amassed millions more views from those who visited and shared.
Most meaningfully, our guests were captivated, and ecstatic. This was deeply rewarding.
But it was just the beginning of an incredibly exciting journey in the world of experiential hospitality that I’m still on.
Today, Helen and I live on the same farm just a quarter mile from where I grew up, and we’re raising our family the same way we were raised. Our son Lucas is one, and we have another on the way. I’m beyond grateful for the life I’ve been given, and I make it my aim to pay it back... and forward.
Ok, enough about me.
Thanks for stopping by!
